General Courses

Spoken English
This four-skills course encourages students to practise their use of English through a variety of activities and language games. The main focus is on improving fluency and pronunciation of spoken English. Students build confidence as they work in small groups, in pairs and as individuals.

Pronunciation
Our interactive pronunciation course has a strong emphasis on learning through games and activities, and is designed to introduce and familiarise students with the 44 sounds in the English language. Lessons are fun, containing active and challenging tasks, rhymes, lively pronunciation games, and coverage of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

Bridging Courses

EMI P6-S1 Bridging Programme
Intensive preparation for new S1 students entering an EMI environment in September. This popular course has been run successfully and repeatedly in many schools in Hong Kong, including Queen's College, St Francis Canossian College, Wa Ying College and Shun Tak Catholic English College. Carefully planned lessons introduce students to general classroom English as well as more specific vocabulary and functions required in subjects such as science, geography, history and mathematics. Confidence building communicative activities prepare students for studying in an EMI classroom.

CMI P6-S1 Bridging Programme
Give your students the chance to revise and practise the language they have learned in primary school in an interactive and fun environment. Every year several thousand students sign up for EfA's bridging courses to prepare them for the challenge of studying English at secondary level. Sessions feature communicative activities, fun games, role plays, quizzes and competitions.

S3 – S4 CMI Science Bridging Programme
The course will provide students with a solid foundation for the transition to S4 EMI classes and will introduce them to relevant vocabulary and scientific terms used in Biology, Chemistry & Physics.

Local Examination Preparation

HKCEE Skills and Techniques
Students will be prepared for the HKCEE through practice and feedback of Past Papers I-IV. They will be shown the format of the exam papers and will learn techniques on completing each paper successfully. Skills practised include writing letters, memos and reports, skimming and scanning for comprehension, proof reading and listening for stress.

A-Level Skills and Techniques
Development of English language skills needed for tertiary education and/or employment is the main focus of this course. Students will be introduced to language needed in academic or vocational situations. There will be opportunities to practise writing in appropriate styles, demonstrate understanding of various texts, and use spoken English for practical communication.

Other Courses

Debating Course
This interactive workshop will include discussion, games and exercises to increase student confidence. Students will cover the key areas of structure, content, delivery, organisation and poise; criteria used by judges in the Hong Kong Inter-School Debating Competition.

Writing Composition: S1-S3 Skills, S4-56 Creative
Our writing course teaches students the process of systematically organising their thoughts and ideas while guiding them as they learn how to transfer these into their written work. Students are introduced to a variety of styles from report writing through to creative narratives. Excellent modern and classical texts are analysed and used as examples to help students appreciate different styles and techniques, and incorporate these into their own writings.

Modern Drama and Plays
This course enhances students' confidence in speaking English and develops their decision-making abilities. The course is based on a series of plays, each ending in a moral dilemma, prompting students to discuss the issues raised and choose one of three appropriate endings or invent their own.

English Literature
A course for senior or advanced students offering them the opportunity to expand their knowledge of some classic works including those of DH Lawrence, Emily Bronte and George Orwell. Each unit features a different theme and provides a wide range of language practice as well as developing reading skills, summary techniques and stylistic appreciation.

Black Cat Readers
Black Cat is a series of richly illustrated readers offering original stories as well as adapted classics in a variety of genres. Each reader contains a wide variety of exercises including exit tests, and those in the style of Cambridge Key English Tests (KET), Cambridge Preliminary English Tests (PET) and Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English.

Campus Reporters
This interactive course challenges students to investigate topical issues, collect relevant information and present it in a clear and succinct manner. Interest and awareness of current events, both local and international, will be raised, as will the students' confidence and ability to discuss and disseminate ideas. All major media types will be covered and students will have the opportunity to research and produce their own newspapers and even a recorded television news report.

Trinity
Prepare your students for Trinity's ESOL examinations with our communicative courses. Workbooks and interactive worksheets provide listening, speaking, reading and writing practice, grammar and vocabulary support, and examination advice. Students are provided with an enjoyable but thorough preparation for the examinations.
